Born and raised in Montgomery County, Brett Ligon has devoted his professional career to law enforcement. A proud graduate of Texas A&M University and South Texas College of Law, Brett began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Harris County before serving as staff counsel for the Houston Police Officers’ Union.
In 2008, Brett was elected Montgomery County District Attorney and has proudly served in that role since January 1, 2009.
Under Brett’s leadership, the District Attorney’s Office has become one of the most respected in Texas. He has championed the creation of specialized prosecution units focused on child abuse, government corruption, impaired driving, and online child predators — ensuring Montgomery County remains a safer, stronger community for every resident.
Recognizing that real change happens both locally and statewide, Brett dedicates time at the Texas Capitol, working directly with lawmakers on key public safety legislation. He has also appointed a dedicated prosecutor to assist during legislative sessions, helping shape policies that protect not only Montgomery County but all Texans.

A proud graduate of Texas A&M University and a longtime Montgomery County resident, District Attorney Brett Ligon has dedicated his entire professional career to law enforcement and criminal justice.
Brett’s journey began as a college intern with the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office, followed by service as a jailer with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department. After earning his law degree from South Texas College of Law, he joined the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, where he served as both a misdemeanor and felony prosecutor, ultimately rising to become Chief of the Justice of the Peace Division.
He later served as staff counsel for the Houston Police Officers’ Union, representing and advising law enforcement officers across the region. In 2008, Brett was elected District Attorney of Montgomery County, where he continues to lead with a steadfast commitment to justice, public safety, and the protection of our community.
