The Major Crimes Unit plays a critical role in pursuing the most serious and complex criminal cases in Montgomery County. This division works alongside narcotics investigators on major drug and money laundering investigations, coordinates contracts for Confidential Human Sources, and prosecutes all fentanyl murder, delivery causing death, and pill mill pharmacy cases. It partners with gang investigators on major criminal street gang cases and collaborates with law enforcement on organized crime investigations.
This unit also manages extraditions and Red Notices — international alerts requesting the location and arrest of individuals wanted for serious crimes. Additionally, it handles special projects as assigned by the District Attorney and provides specialized training to law enforcement agencies across the county, ensuring officers are equipped with the tools and knowledge they need to combat high-level crimes effectively.
